When most students get gagged, they try to stay on campus as much as possible. They go to their classes (under threat of longer gagging if they skip), they stand where they're told to stand, and then they go back to their dorms. Having your mouth gagged, they learn, can be a real killer to your social life.

Not every student is lucky enough to be able to stay on campus, though. Some have to go into town to shop, or to take care of bills, or to do other business. The sight of a gagged student walking around town was rare, but it did happen every once in a while.

Juliet had already had to walk to town to buy clay for her art classes earlier that day, and it seemed like the people in town were even more giggly about her gag than the people on campus. After returning to campus, though, she realized she needed oil paints as well. The second time in town, even more people were walking around, turning to look at her as she walked to the art store, black tape sealing her lips, clamping her jaw down, and gagging her quite effectively.
